A MESSAGE TO THE BROTHERS

picsart_10-02-10-00-23

In looking through some old notes I found an unpublished post written by our Senior Contributing Writer, “Q” Montgomery, who was tragically taken from us almost two years ago.

Now, especially in light of the murderous rampage being waged today against the black man by some of our so-called “peace officers” who are sworn to protect us, I can’t think of a better way to honor his memory than to belatedly publish the following strong, encouraging and uplifting words of advice – the very last left to this website by our beloved friend – before his passing.

A MESSAGE TO THE BROTHERS

Black men, know who you are…
Be proud of who you are…
Celebrate who you are…
Love who you are…
Let no one besides You define who you are

It starts and ends with how you feel about yourself.
When you know yourself and what you have to offer, that’s when you can have a positive effect on those around you.

Black men are the most imitated male species on the planet for a reason;
when you look outside of yourself for validation, you are asking for someone else to give you what you already have inside:

PRIDE – it’s more than just a word……….

Rest in Peace Q.  How I miss you and wish you were here to talk to in person. 😟

  1. Good message to the brothers. Profound statements, all true. However from birth to becoming a young black man, (if they live that long), they must be nurtured and encouraged to become strong black men by some positive role models, not the media which unfortunately is where many of the brothers are getting their identity from. Knowing our history will help us shape our future.

    1. Most definitely. My friend who wrote this piece, before his passing, spent most of his later adult life mentoring end encouraging every black youth (both young men and young women) he could find. He was a warrior for justice even from a very young age . I tried to get him to write about his experience marching with Dr. King many years ago but he just was too shy or something. Now he is gone and he will never be able to share those memories. But as you said it is critically important to nurture our young black men because they are set upon at every turn from such a young age. They need all the skills, self-esteem, self respect, and mental strength that they can manage to gather together to make it through life . Thank you very much for your comment .
